Mathematics students, Markovich and Williams awarded NSF Graduate Research Fellowships
Cameron Williams, a mathematics major and physics minor, and Thomas Markovich, a physics and mathematics double major, are 2012 recipients of National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowships.

Mathematics faculty, Jeff Morgan and Kresimir Josic, honored with awards at UH Evening of Faculty Excellence.
Two mathematics faculty won awards for excellence in teaching and excellence in research and scholarship during University of Houston's "An Evening of Faculty Excellence." The excellence awards, given each year, are one of the highest honors bestowed by UH.

Starting from Summer 2012, some regular courses will also have online version so that students can receive MSAM degree either by taking courses on the campus or by taking all or some online courses

UH organizes the 2012 Great Plains Operator Theory Symposium (GPOTS)
This is the largest annual conference in North America on the subjects of Operator Algebras and Operator Theory. The 2012 GPOTS will be held at UH May 30--June 3, 2012 and will feature both invited speakers and contributed talks.

UH organizes the 2012 Spring Texas Geometry and Topology Conference
The Texas Geometry and Topology Conference is organized twice each year, on a rotating basis among six Texas universities. The speakers at the Feb 17 to Feb 19 conference are Simon Brendle (Stanford), Roland Glowinski (UH), Gordon Heier (UH), Tom Mrowka (MIT), Timothy Perutz (UT Austin), Andrew Putman (Rice), Jian Song (Rutgers), Susan Tolman (U Illinois) and Igor Zelenko (Texas A & M)

Undergraduate colloquium and Putnam competition
The lectures of the Undergraduate colloquium are intended for the general audience; they will introduce various scientific ideas in a friendly manner. The Putnam mathematical competition is open to regularly enrolled undergraduates in colleges and universities of the United States and Canada. Meritorious participation will be rewarded with prizes and fellowship.
